The spectacular Kanneliya forest reserve where most of the birding is done is home to at least 17 of the 33 endemics of Sri Lanka including the rare Red-faced Malkoha, Green-billed Coucal and the endangered White-faced Starling. You may see the rare resident Mountain Hawk Eagle or happen upon the Oriental Dwarf Kingfisher by the freshwater stream.
